About

SVIN is a Copenhagen-based trio who have spent over a decade building one of Denmark's most distinctive bodies of work in experimental rock. Since debuting in 2011 with Heimat, the band has carved out a sound that moves freely between noise-infested rock, droning landscapes, new age minimalism, and dusty afro-influenced improvisation. The result is music that resists easy description and rewards close listening.

The band has performed at Roskilde Festival, Eurosonic, and by:Larm, and has toured extensively across Europe, Russia, and the Balkans. In 2019, SVIN was selected for the Danish Arts Foundation's programme "The Young Artistic Elite" (2019-2022), and that same year received a commission to compose music for contemporary ensemble Århus Sinfonietta, premiering at Aarhus Festuge. That commission was released as the album Elegi in January 2022.

Their seventh album Introducing SVIN (2022) won the Danish Music Awards Jazz in the category Experimental Album of the Year. Produced by Jens Benz (Iceage), it pushes the trio's bricolage aesthetic further by introducing a higher degree of electronics, weaving together man and machine in a robotic, cyborg-ish jazz rock universe where the natural and the digital continuously shift role and meaning. New ground was found in the studio through two sessions that left more to chance than previous recordings, with guest appearances from singer Bisse and vocalist Marie Eline Hansen adding further texture to the album's strange, soothing architecture.

As ever, SVIN holds the tension between improvisation and structure, leaving enough elasticity for the music to breathe, break, and surprise.
