Since debuting in 2011 with Heimat, SVIN has made a deep impact on the international music-scene, with four previous studio albums and numerous tours and concerts all over Europe and Russia including Roskilde Festival(DK), Eurosonic (NL), BY:Larm (NO) and 12 Points Festival (IR). SVIN recorded their latest critically acclaimed album, Missionær (2016), in the legendary Sundlaugin studios in Iceland with massive inspiration from the epic surroundings.
Virgin Cuts marks the fifth studio-release of music from SVIN, but the first one as a trio. Since parting ways with a member the band has developed an ambigious, often darker and more complex sound performed on woodwinds, Electronic woodwind, drums and keyboards and with feature guests on violin, vocals and keyboards. Virgin Cuts was recorded in one cold day in a small studio in the outskirts of Copenhagen and bears the witness of an album that is highly improvised, collectively composed and a band on a constant move in music. Virgin Cuts features a unique kind of music that drags the listener into a sonic loophole between noise-infested rock, drony landscapes, new age minimalism and dusty afro-tripping. Etheric chords from the keyboard merges with almost hip-hoppy drumbeats and psychedelic guitar-patterns. Drawing on heavy inspiration from nature, folklore, ceremonial music and avantgarde SVIN trancends the genre-borders in music and continues to surprise the listener throughout the entire album.
“Fact remains that this is one damn interesting piece of work, one that you need to check out, whatever stuff you usually listen to.”
Merchants of Air
“The music is magic — a repeating motif of clanging, chiming guitars and pounding percussion, punctuated by even more compulsive rhythmic patterns and the seething flow of poisonous riffs.”
-No Clean Singing (USA)
“The new album sees the band further pushing the envelope of just what they’re capable of, producing another enigmatic album experience that offers intense rushes and surprising calms. “
